Not one size fits all. We aren't here to please society standards.

An exploration of womanhood and what success looks like on a woman.

My own opinion on success within womanhood is that it encompasses friendships, love, happiness, dancing so hard that you feel dizzy, travelling freely, discovering new places, and eating as much food as you want. I believe success has no limits and no regrets. A successful life has been lived. This is why, for my photo exploration, I have chosen to focus on pictures surrounding birthdays, celebrations, female friendships, and pure happiness. I believe success holds no boundaries; it is completely fluid and personal to each individual.

Dancing with friends.

This photograph was taken within my first few weeks starting at University, in which I was feeling overwhelmed and slightly lost. A group of women welcomed me to their flat, and we spent the night sipping on cheap white wine and dancing without a care in the world. That night, I felt purely successful. I was surrounded by women who uplifted me and each other.

Laughter.

This photograph was taken of my two best friends as they shared candid laughter. As their brightly colored hair matched, it created a sense of togetherness (blue and green hues), both expressing themselves confidently and proudly through their hair and fashion. This photo radiates friendship representing that success isn’t always external validation but inner fulfillment.

Curling hair.

The intmacy between the two friends depicts a success so individual to them. This photgraph captures an intimate ritual of curling each other’s hair in preparation for a night out. Reflecting sisterhood and strong friendship between them both. Highlighting the success and empowerment of their connection in which their is no male gaze and they are just genuinly caring for each other.

Real. Radiated. Woman.

This image relates to the empowerment and caring nature of women, the overjoyous drunk smile radiated around the room as a group of female friends celebrated Valentine’s Day together. Her joyful nature acts as a resistance against the oppression of women as she embraces her full nantural self with no care for anyone else’s opinion.
